Crypto ATM Installation Numbers Approaching All-Time High

The number of cryptocurrency ATMs installed worldwide is rapidly increasing. As of now, there are 38,279 cryptocurrency ATMs globally, a 17.8% increase from the previous year. This surge brings the total closer to the all-time high of 39,541 set in December 2022.

  • A net total of 2,564 cryptocurrency ATMs have been installed in 2024, outpacing the 2,861 machines that were removed in 2023.
  • Installations have been consistently increasing every month since July 2023.
  • Bitcoin Depot, Coinflip, and Athena Bitcoin are the top three cryptocurrency ATM operators, with 7,543, 5,057, and 2,756 machines respectively.

Bitcoin remains the dominant cryptocurrency transacted on these ATMs, followed by Bitcoin Cash, Ether, and Litecoin. The United States accounts for over 82% of the world’s cryptocurrency ATMs, with Canada in second place at 7.7%.

Australia has experienced a significant surge in cryptocurrency ATM installations, growing nearly 17-fold to 1,107 machines in the last two years. At this rate, Australia is positioned to surpass Europe in total installations.

Other countries with notable cryptocurrency ATM presence include Spain (313), Poland (279), El Salvador (215), Germany (177), and more. In total, 72 of the 193 United Nations-recognized countries host cryptocurrency ATMs.

Despite a decline in installations between December 2022 and July 2023, the cryptocurrency ATM market has rebounded. Manufacturers like BitAccess have shown resilience, with net installations increasing in recent months after a temporary dip.
