Bitcoin Whale Transfers BTC from 2009 to Kraken
A notable Bitcoin whale has recently transferred approximately $3.58 million worth of Bitcoin to Kraken, as reported by Arkham Intelligence.
This significant whale is believed to have mined Bitcoin within the first couple of months after the blockchain’s inception. According to Arkham Intelligence, the transfer occurred on October 3rd, moving 10 Bitcoin (BTC), amounting to $610,000.
The transfers began on September 24, with the whale moving a total of $3.58 million to Kraken. The wallet address in question had been inactive for nearly a decade before these transactions.
“After moving several times from 2011-2014, this Bitcoin was held dormant for almost 10 YEARS straight, during which its value surged from $474K to over $80M.”
The wallet, identified as “3JZsd…QerUW,” now maintains a balance of 1,169 Bitcoin (BTC), which is valued at around $72.4 million based on current market prices.
These movements have reignited curiosity regarding the identity of Bitcoin’s enigmatic creator, Satoshi Nakamoto. An upcoming documentary titled “Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery” is scheduled for release on October 8, and it promises to provide insights into Nakamoto’s identity.
The late American computer scientist Len Sassaman is a prominent figure under consideration to be Nakamoto, as indicated by betting odds related to the documentary. Sassaman, who was respected within the cypherpunk community, passed away on July 3, 2011, shortly after Nakamoto had indicated a departure from involvement in Bitcoin.
Intriguingly, a tribute to Sassaman was embedded into Block 138,725 of the Bitcoin blockchain. Despite speculation, the true link between Sassaman and Bitcoin remains ambiguous. Notably, he had previously expressed concerns regarding Bitcoin’s privacy features and its lack of protection against fraud.
As of now, Bitcoin is trading at approximately $61,815, representing a 1.5% increase over the last 24 hours, but still down 16% from its all-time high of $73,738 reached on March 14, according to CoinGecko.
