Report: Kamala Harris Weighs Gary Peters as Potential Running Mate

Kamala Harris to consider Gary Peters as running mate: Report

Kamala Harris Contemplates Gary Peters as a Vice Presidential Candidate

Recent reports indicate that Kamala Harris is evaluating Michigan Senator Gary Peters as a potential running mate for the upcoming 2024 election.

The possibility of Peters joining the ticket has gained traction, with his name appearing alongside other notable figures such as Gavin Newsom, Pete Buttigieg, JB Pritzker, and Josh Shapiro.

The Role of Labor Unions

According to sources, the labor unions are playing a significant role in advocating for Peters’s candidacy. His inclusion could potentially enhance Harris’s appeal in Michigan, a critical battleground state.

Moreover, Peters has shown interest in the vice presidential role and is currently seeking to build support from his fellow Democrats for this opportunity.

Gary Peters’ Position on Cryptocurrency

Gary Peters has a well-documented stance on cryptocurrency. The nonprofit organization Stand With Crypto has reported that Peters is “strongly against crypto.” Notably, he co-sponsored the Digital Asset Money Laundering Act in 2023, which aimed to curb the use of cryptocurrencies in financing terrorism. In this context, he reached out to National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan to discuss preventive measures.

“Given the clear and present danger posed by the financing of these and other militant organizations, we ask the Administration to provide additional details on its plan to prevent the use of crypto for the financing of terrorism.”

In addition to his opposition to crypto, Peters has also supported the repeal of the SAB-121 provision, which would have required banks to classify digital assets held for clients as liabilities on their balance sheets.

Kamala Harris’s Silence on Crypto Policy

Despite the growing discussion around cryptocurrencies at the national level, Kamala Harris has remained relatively quiet about her intended policy approach for digital assets if she secures re-election. This leaves many uncertain about her administration’s stance on the subject.

Entrepreneur Mark Cuban has expressed optimism regarding Harris’s viewpoint, suggesting that she may be more open to crypto businesses and innovations than perceived. Conversely, Riot Platforms CEO Jason Les has cast doubt on the likelihood of any significant policy shifts from her, leaning towards continuity with current Biden administration policies.

Additionally, a group of Congressional Democrats has reached out to Harris, urging her to move away from the party’s current negative disposition towards cryptocurrencies and to engage in meaningful dialogue with industry stakeholders.
